H. Ezzat Khalifa is NYSTAR Distinguished Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and Director of the New York Strategically Targeted Academic Research (STAR) Center for Environmental Quality Systems, and at Syracuse University. Before joining SU in August 2001, Dr. Khalifa was the Director of the Carrier R&D Program at United Technologies Research Center, where he was responsible for planning and executing a diverse R&D portfolio of innovative technologies aimed at advanced environmental control systems for buildings and transportation, including IAQ systems. Prior to this, Dr. Khalifa was the Director of Engineering for the Carrier Carlyle Compressor Division, where he was responsible for product development and reliability for all displacement compressors: rotary, scroll, reciprocating and screw.

Dr. Khalifa holds B.Sc. (1966) and M.Sc. (1971) degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Cairo University, Egypt, and a Ph.D. (1976) in Engineering (Thermo- and Fluid-dynamics) from Brown University. He is a member of ASME, AIAA, ASHRAE and Sigma Xi.

Research Interests
His research interests span a wide range of environmental control and energy conversion systems, including HVAC/R, geothermal, solar, space power and combined heat and power systems. His current research is focused on heat and mass transfer processes in energy-efficient environmental control systems and in buildings, and particularly on the development of reduced-order-models that can be used for near-real-time control of such systems. He holds 6 patents and has authored and coauthored over 50 papers and 15 reports on transport properties of fluids, energy conversion and environmental control systems. He is Editor and Coauthor of “Sourcebook on the Production of Electricity from Geothermal Energy”.
